Steam, The Ultimate Online Game Platform

Steam a tool without end, almost

Steam is a platform (program) created by a Valve Corporation. It is designed to "distribute games and related media online". It is often used by both large software corporations and small ones alike to make their games available for the gaming community. It can be compared to the Facebook of the gaming community, where you can see what games your friends have been playing and how long, comment on and checkout their profile, join different groups, join community discussions, and more. Below there is a basic tutorial on how to use Steam by a fellow steam user and wildcat.

Steam also allows for new "Indie" developers to publish their games on a new built in tool called Greenlight where fellow users can up vote or down vote those games and potentially make them available through steam if there is enough demand for the games. A major part of Steam is obviously the store, where you can scroll through hundreds of games and software ranging from hundreds to free. The store has constant weekly, and daily sales as well as having holiday sales. Some of the games available on steam are made by the valve corporation but the majority is made by other companies that use steam as an outlet for their games, since steam receives over 3 million users online simultaneously at any given moment of the day. Some times during the day this number may rise to 7 million which is a big demographic for these companies.

Steam Market Ad
There is also a user friendly library where you can sort all the software and games you have installed through steam and even add non steam games to it. Steam also installs any games you installed through it automatically so when you want to play your games are up to date. The steam friends list is also very developed allowing you to check what games your friends are playing in detail, talk, trade items, chat vocally, and more. While this is limited to basic users once you buy a game on steam it becomes much more, allowing you to add your own friends and so forth. It introduced a market where users can sell in-game items or games themselves for their "Steam Wallet" a place where you can store money to buy other games or in-game items. With this introduced recently many items in-game have been changed to real life currency and many more people have interacted through the market.

Steam is an amazing piece of software that is used by gamers worldwide to sort their games an connect with other gamers with similar interest or to find new games to enjoy.

Team Fortress 2

Team Fortress 2

Toasters

Unfortunately i cannot continue with my Toaster segment so I will start a new segment where i will talk about different computer games because i know you guys like computer games.

The Game

2Fort - CTF
Team Fortress 2 or tf2 for short is a first person shooter game developed by Valve Corporation. This game uses cartoon themed characters and maps for gameplay. In this team based game their are different things you can do as a player. With multiple game modes like Capture the Flag where each team attempts to steal the enemy's flag (from the enemy base) and bring it back to their own base, Control Points is a mode where as a team you must capture points to unlock more points and to capture them all. This game mode has many variants such as attack/defend where 1 team attacks and the other defends until the time runs out or the attacking team captures all the points for that level. The third highly played gamemode is Payload, which has 1 team "pushing the cart" and the other team defending by preventing
Dustbowl - Attack/Defend
them from pushing the cart. There is also a Payload race where both teams have a cart and they try to arrive to the destination before the other. There are many other types of official game modes and countless of other of unofficial game modes as well. There are 9 classes in the game which are divided into 3 groups offensive, defensive, and support classes. In the offensive classes there is the scout, soldier and pyro classes. The scout is the most agile of all the class being able to double jump and capture points faster than other classes. The solider class can do rocket jumps to travel around the map and is one of the more tanky classes (more health). The pyro is the only non male class in the game since its gender is unknown and it lights everyone on fire with its close combat flamethrower. Under the defensive classes there is the demoman, the heavy and the engineer.
TF2 - Classes
The demoman is the explosive expert with a grenade and sticky bomb launcher he knows how to start a party. The Heavy is the class with the most health and wields a massive machine gun which is used to mess people up. The engineer is a character which uses building to help attack and defend. Having a sentry (place able turret), dispenser for health and ammo, and a teleporter to help your team move from one place to another he is a key role in some game modes. Finally we have the support classes which comprise the medic, the sniper, and the spy. The medic's key role is to heal the team using a special gun called the medi-gun. The sniper is a long range assassin sued to take out any dangerous foe with his zoom able sniper rifle. The spy is the most diverse class with the largest amount of different weapons at his disposal. Having a revolver for a bit of range he largely relies on his knife to insta-kill most classes. As well as having a watch that can turn him invisible he can change to look like any class in the game on either team's colour. And to take out the pesky engineers he has a mechanical sapper to destroy those sentries.

TF2 is a free to play game where a player gets 50 backpack slots and mostly everything a premium member gets. Every time you play there are item drops where you can get weapons or other drops up to 12 a week. After a while your backpack will fill up and for 0.49$ you can upgrade to premium and get 300 backpack slots, trading, and a few other privileges. There are hundreds of achievements and after completing some you can get special awards such as weapons, hats and in-game tools.

Christmas Headphone Buying guide

Christmas is almost upon us, and with it comes christmas sales. Unless you're some kind of not christmas celebrating person, Then they're just regular sales. The point still stands that you guys are all listening to music out of a tin can with a piece of string attached, and I'm here to try and change that. Categories are sorted by price range, and I'll stay in the lower price range, just because recommending you 3000 dollar headphones is a bit ridiculous for a student.

Under 100 dollars

Okay So whether you want IEM's or Full size headphones, there is a couple of good really options. A lot of people may just buy whatever catches their eye, because it's shiny or it's their favourite colour. I'm here to tell you that if you do that then.... I'm just really disappointed is all.

Creative Aurvana Live!

Yes the exclamation point is part of the name. The CAL's are widely considered the best option for over ear headphones under 100 dollars. Usually available on amazon for ~90 dollars, they often also go on sale for anywhere from 60 to 80 dollars. They're made of plastic, which some people don't like, but you aren't going to find better sound for a better price for under 100 dollar headphones. They aren't garish or awful looking unlike some other options either *cough beats*. They are lightweight and comfortable for long periods of time, which make them great for both portable use and stay at home. The CAL's offer a slightly bassier experience with good mids and a treble that could use some work, But for under 100 dollars, you aren't going to find better. The headphone has a closed design, which means that the headphones will isolate noise, and keep the music in your headphones. The seal on the CAL's is decent, and it could be better, but when you remember the price then these headphones are so much better than anything else at the price range. Headphones really do better or worse depending on what kind of music you listen to, and the CAL's seem to hit the sweet spot where everything sounds good. Really an outstanding deal for anyone looking to get high quality sound without the huge price tag.

HiFiMan RE-400

A bit of a less known company by the general consumer, HiFiMan is known to produce some of the best planar magnetic headphones at the best price. Often their headphones are considered to sound well above their price range, and the RE-400 does not disappoint. before you whine and say that these are 99 dollars, which is pretty expensive, and that I should recommend some cheaper headphones, let me tell you that nothing else is worth it. and 99 dollars is still less than 100 so get over it. Anyways, these headphones should be good for just about any kind of music you want to throw at it. HiFiMan headphones are traditionally very neutral, and the RE-400 is no different, "[classified]  as a neutral earphone with just a hint of warmth. The midrange is clear and well-positioned, neither recessed nor forward in the presentation. Detail resolution is excellent and the overall sound is very transparent. The top end, similarly, is present but far from overbearing." That quote on the sound courtesy of This guy who knows more than I do, so i'm going to let you trust him and not me.

100-250 Dollars

A little bit broader of a category, there are a lot of really good options depending on how much you want to spend. So instead on doing the "best" I'm just going to give you my favourites, so get over it.

Sennheiser HD 598

While not technically under 250 dollars if you are buying them at retail, stores such as Amazon or B & H regularly have them for 250 or less. With the design being inspired by a sports car (I think i read it somewhere). Well, whatever it was inspired by, it looks nice, and is super comfortable as well, sporting velour ear-pads and a velour headband, you could wear these for hours without getting tired of them. The headphones are open-backed, which means that they are going to leak sound out of them, and they aren't going to isolate you from outside noise. while many people would complain about this, don't. These aren't meant to be taken out and about, and in the comfort of your own home you shouldn't need isolation. The HD 598's lack bass, so if you're some kind of bass loving person then look elsewhere. The 598's are described as being really good for rock and metal, but less aggressive for electronic music, which isn't a bad thing. These are really top-notch headphones for their price range.

Audio-Technica ATH-M50

The often praised ATH-M50's are well known as the best sub 200 dollar headphone for a lot of people. The M50's are a closed headphone, which means they don't leak sound, and will isolate you from the surrounding ambient sound. The M50's are made of plastic, and the earpads are made of pleather, and some people have had comfort issues in extended listening periods. Though they are plastic, the M50's are not weak by any stretch of the imagination, and are still extremely solid and shouldn't break if treated right. The earcups swivel 180 degrees, meaning they can lay flat in a backpack or something for good portability. The sound of  the M50's are generally described as a balanced headphone, with an emphasis on having a strong, but not overwhelming bass. High's can be shrill, and the mids are often described as recessed, with a smaller soundstage. The M50's are generally best for electronic music, and more metal/rock type music, but are not bad for other types either, just best for the previously stated genres. The M50's are really the best value for your money at this price range, but be sure to wait until they go on sale on Amazon, as you can usually get them for around $120, and has gone as low as $90. The m50's retail for somewhere around $180 however, so be sure to wait until you can get them at a cheaper price.

VSONIC GR07

The GR07's are noise isolating in-ear monitors that usually sell for around $180. The GR07's come with 15 ear-tips, so finding one that fits your ear properly shouldn't be too much of a problem. The GR07's are very comfortable in the ear, and are good for long periods of listening. The GR07's are what is called an over the ear IEM, which means that once the IEM is inserted in your ear, the cable has to go around the top of your ear before coming back down again. Some people find this uncomfortable, but i personally think it is great, because the IEM's are less likely to fall out of your ears if you need to be active. The sound of these IEM's are generally very neutral, and do well with whatever kind of music you want to listen to (are you noticing a trend yet) and are generally considered as a very detailed headphone. Even though these are well worth the money, it may be difficult to get a hold on them as availability is extremely limited, however if you can get them, they are well worth the money.
____________________________________________________________________________

SO if you're going to buy headphones, buy one of these, Or don't. I don't really care. Just in general don't buy beats, don't buy Bose, don't buy skullcandy, pretty much just don't buy anything from best buy, unless you care more about "swag" then actual sound quality. Please.

Deluxe Toasters

Deluxe Toasters

Are you looking for a new toaster to make you breakfast? One that will make it all for you before you wake up?
Well keep on dreaming because that isn't real, yet. However there are some very "deluxe" toasters that have much more in them than one may think. For our first example, the Toaster and Egg Poacher by Back to Basics.

Toaster and Egg Poacher

This toaster is is the all in one english mcmuffin maker. In place of the egg you can cook ham or bacon and complete your delicious breakfast in a little amount of time. This being said there are bigger and better toasters to come, such as the Egg and Muffin Toaster by West Bend.

Similar to its competitor, Back to Basics, this West Bend toaster is an excellent way to make egg mcmuffins. Unlike it competitor it can make two at a time and the ham and egg trays stack for maximum efficiency in the littlest amount of time. The next on our list is the Flip-Down Breakfast Toaster by Nostalgia Electrics (Coca-Cola).

This toaster is is similar to the previous ones however it has a larger surface to cook the other ingredients of an english mcmuffin. The surface can be brought up to save up space or if you just aren't in the mcmuffin mood. This next toaster is the 3 in 1 Breakfast Toaster by Sunpentown. I would call it the king of the morning machines, with a toaster oven, coffee machine, and a pan-like heated surface to make an egg, sausage, bacon, etc. This machine is, in my opinion, optimal for all your morning needs as it provides everything you need to wake up in one spot.

That is the end of the Deluxe Toaster area which seemed to be dominated by mcmuffin machines. This is definitely not the end of the Toaster reviews to find the coolest weirdest wackiest toasters out there. The best of IFA 2013

September 4th, 2013. The first day of IFA where countless reporters and media junkies alike jostled in the morning dew outside of the Messe Berlin, all waiting for their chance to get inside the hall where all of their tech dreams lie in wait. One of the biggest and most anticipated tech conferences of the year, where thousands of people from all over the world come to see what the various companies have prepared for q4, and the christmas season. In this articleblogpostthing I will cover some of the things that I thought were the coolest/best things at IFA 2013, and maybe some things I thought were not so good as well.

The Wacom Companion

For years, Wacom has been the premier maker of drawing tablets, coveted by artists for accurate lines and excellent function. Some companies have tried to breach the market with their attempts by including support for styli, such as Microsoft's surface tablet or the Samsung galaxy tab 10.1, but professional artists have been dissatisfied by their performance, citing drawing on glass and the general accuracy to be difficult to work with. Wacom has attempted to rectify this by providing their own premium drawing tablet/computer hybrid, providing a true mobile drawing experience that was designed for professional artists. Notice the word premium, as these tablets do not come in cheap. Starting at $1,999.00 for the 256 GB version, and $2,499.00 for the 512 GB version. While that may seem expensive, the components of the tablet are quality parts, but people just can't seem to get past the price. I think this will be an invaluable tool for any artist on the go.

Full Specifications:

  • Display Size               13.3 inch
  • Resolution                  Full HD 1920 X 1080
  • Advanced Control       2048 levels pen pressure, natural feel and multi-touch
  • Productivity                BoostersExpressKeys™, Rocker Ring, Home Button, on-screen controls
  • Ergonomics                Adjustable stand
  • Compatibility              Windows 8
  • Processor                  Intel® Core™ i-7 (Ivy Bridge)
  • Storage                      256 or 512 GB Solid State Drive (SSD)
  • Product Type              Creative tablet
  • Size                           375 248 17 mm / 14.8 x 9.8 x 0.7 in
  • Weight                       1.8 kg / 3.9 lbs

What's really important to note here is that the processor is a Ivy bridge processor, not the latest Haswell processors that came out earlier in the year. Why this is important is because the Haswell processors offer significantly better battery performance out of mobile devices due to better power consumption. The other thing to notice is that there is no graphics card included in this package. While this is not too big of a problem for most artists, as photoshop and other art programs are usually more cpu-intensive, it still limits the ability to do anything else on the computer, such as video editing, or playing games.

The Wacom Companion is a tablet designed for artists, and nobody else. I think artists will cherish the fact that this is a much more mobile and convenient solution to their mobile drawing needs, and I think it would be a good investment for anybody who needs this sort of thing.

Asus Book Trio

Asus evolved the tablet market back in 2011 with the original Asus transformer, by combining the traditional tablet with a new keyboard docking station that both added battery life, and extra functionality by adding usb ports. Now back to 2013, Asus is yet again trying to blur the line between laptop and tablet with the new Asus book trio. The Asus book trio combines an android tablet with a windows keyboard dock, with the ability to switch between windows and android at any time (when the keyboard is plugged in. But the really cool thing about the Asus book Trio is that you can take the keyboard dock, and plug it into any monitor and suddenly you have a full windows computer. I don't really know how well I have explained this so I'll include a video.
I think this could be a really smart move, and I can see this being extremely useful for students who need the portability of a transformer tablet, but could not justify dishing out 500 dollars for having hardly any functionality because of android. Because the keyboard dock is windows, you have the entire Microsoft ecosystem, including word, powerpoint, excel, and everything else you could need. You can enjoy all of the programs you could on any other laptop or desktop, and all in an extremely portable fashion.

The Specs for the tablet itself include a dual core intel atom processor, 2GB of RAM and a full HD display, and includes up to 64GB of storage, while the Keyboard dock adds a fully backlit keyboard, HDMI access, a 4th gen i5/i7 processor, up to a 1TB hard drive, and a 33Whr battery, making portability for this tablet excellent.

The Sony Xperia Z1

The Sony Xperia Z1 is sony's new flagship device, and it really steps the bar up from anything that has come before. Sporting a 20.7 Megapixel camera, and 2.2 Ghz quad core snapdragon 800, 2 GB of RAM, and a 5 inch full hd screen, the Z1 was the best phone announced at IFA, or since in my opinion. The Z1 feels premium too, sporting a glass front and back, with an aluminum chassis and a little bit of plastic in the mix to serve as a shock resistor. The back is non-removable, which means the 3000 mAh battery is locked inside forever. Even though that means there's no replacing it, there shouldn't be a need to, as you can easily get a day out of it at heavy use, which is very impressive for a 1080p phone. The phone is also completely waterproof, though only in fresh water up to 1.5m deep for under 30 minutes, but it still means that if you drop it in the lake, or the sink, or the bathtub, you need not worry about buying a new phone. This waterproof feature comes at a price though, as all of the ports around the phone are covered by plastic flip off coverings that can be annoying to deal with when all you want to do is listen to music. All of these premium features do come with a premium price though, and this phone will run you somewhere in the vicinity of 700 dollars unlocked. The skin Sony has put on android looks nice, functions well, and isn't too intrusive so Sony definitely gets a pass in that department. For a full review of this phone, you can check this link.

So thats is! that is what i felt was the best things to see at IFA this year, tell me what you think in the comments. Did I miss something? Do you have a different opinion? I don't really care either way, but tell me anyways okay?
good talk.
